An AP story that ran today in The Item reported the economic impact of the race on Darlington and the state. A recent study by The Washington Economics Group studied the economic impact of the annual Mother's Day weekend race on the local area and the results are in. The impact is HUGE!
Darlington Raceway brings in $54 million to Darlington and the state each year. The report further breaks down the impact this way: $19 million in labor income to workers in SC; $7.9 million to federal, state, and local governments; and activities add $30 million to SC gross product. The article further states that 874 jobs are created in the region because of Darlington.
This Mother's Day weekend, NASCAR fans will bring their own form of economic stimulation to the Darlington region and the state of SC when they visit "The Track Too Tough To Tame".
