The Coca-Cola 600 NASCAR race is being run at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, NC. At 3pm, President Obama had asked for a moment of silence to honor those military that have sacrificed for our country. NASCAR decided to honor the request and completely stopped the race, had the drivers cut their engines off and asked the crowd to honor this request. The link below is a clip of that time. What a great tribute by all of those at Lowe's Motor Speedway.

I was watching and wasn't it so very cool. NASCAR fans are among the best people anywhere in my book. I also like Jimmie Johnson's paint scheme that includes over 12,000 names of service men and women who work for Lowe's.
That was a beautiful tribute. To completely stop the race and have the crewmen over the wall to HONOR those who serve and those who have paid the ulitmately price for our freedom. Well done NASCAR!
Amazing in this commercial laden day to do some thing so wonderful for those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Tammy - I agree, can't ask for better. I do wish they had been able to run all 600 though.
Laura - I was amazed they could get everyone quiet right in the middle of the race.
Kathy - Tony Stewart, one of the drivers, said over his radio that was one of the coolest things he had ever seen or been a part of.
This just shows that Nascar and it's fans care about America and understand why they have the opportunity to enjoy living in the greatest country in the world.
Mark - I agree. The best fans in the world.
A great tribute. One hopes that NASCAR's intent was true, but considering how much gas those cars use going round in circles, they might have had ulterior motives to keep the President's people out of racing. Just a thought. You never know.
